Scott began his Martial Arts journey in 1986 age 13. This first 90 minute class when he was nearly knocked out by a brown belt 4 years his senior, helped to define the person he is today. After years of running a successful Freestyle Karate and Kickboxing club, Scott decided to explore other styles. After an intense 2 year search, training in various other Martial Arts styles Scott found the style that he believed reflected true Budo. Goju Kai Karate do.

At age 24, Scott began training in Goju Kai at the AGKK Honbu dojo in Brisbane under Bernie Haughey Sensei and Merv Oakley Shihan. Haughey Sensei challenged him to be humble and start from 10th kyu again. Scott excepted the challenge and worked his way through each of the kyu grades and has devoted himself to the karate way, his character is a true reflection of this. He is respectful and self disciplined and he has purpose and principle in everything that he does.

He is committed to the study of Goju Karate and continues to further his knowledge and refine his skills in Goju Ryu Seiwakai, training interstate under Glenn Stephenson Shihan. Scott also travels to Japan to train under Shuji Tasaki Hanshi 9th Dan and Seiichi Fujiwara Shihan 8th Dan. This enables him to improve personally in Kata and in evolving Kumite techniques with the goal to pass on these skills to his students.

His mentors include Shuji Tasaki Hanshi 9th Dan, Seiichi Fujiwara Shihan 8th Dan, Leo Lipinski Shihan 8th Dan, Glenn Stephenson Shihan 5th Dan and Chief Instructor of AGKK Bernie Haughey Sensei. Scott believes it is their belief in their Karate and their dedication and devotion to Goju that sets them apart from other instructors. They are his mentors in life not just in the dojo, they reflect the virtues he lives by.

Scott’s Dojo is situated in Kangaroo Point which is located 1km from Brisbane CBD. For more information go to :- www.agkk.com.au
