MUSHUBI DACHI
Stand with shoulders and legs relaxed heels together toes 45 degrees apart.
UCHIHACHI DACHI
From mushubi dachi leave toes as they are turn the heel out. Knees tensed
inward, feet shoulder width apart with body weight distributed evenly.
SHIKO DACHI
Feet at least three feet six inches apart (depending upon your own height).
Knees back and directly over feet. Weight is distributed evenly on both feet
with the shoulders well back, body facing straight ahead. Because the centre
of gravity is lowered this stance gives greater stability.
SANCHIN DACHI
This stance is used most effectively when you are in close to an opponent.
The heel of the front foot is directly in line with the toes of the back
foot. Weight distributed evenly on both feet, knees tensed inward, buttocks
are tucked in back straight, body facing straight ahead. This stance is
stable in all directions.

ZENKUTSU DACHI
Be sure there is enough space between the front and rear foot, lower the
hips and bend the knee so it is over the front foot as in the diagram. Keep
the back leg straight and maintain a straight back with the upper body
perpendicular to the ground. Zenkutsu is a strong stance to the front and is
especially effective when power must be pushed forward, a strong position to
assume when attacking a target directly ahead.

NEKOASHI DACHI
This stance is the main fighting stance used in kumite. The rear foot points
45 degrees from the body weight. The front foot points forward with only the
ball of the foot resting on the floor, back leg well bent with body straight
to the front.
