The Art of the Goju Kai Technique

The techniques in Goju Kai involve close-in fighting, and require a balance between hard (Go) and soft (Ju) techniques. This balance allows the practitioner the ability to combine techniques in a quick flowing manner--in order to execute a kick or punch with explosive force.

Goju Kai kata Sanchin and Tensho embody ibuki breathing techniques. Conscious control of breathing allows the mind and body to reach a state of greater awareness. Control of breathing allows the mind to remain calm and internal organs to be activated for optimum performance. Ibuki breathing should always be performed slowly breathing in through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. In both Sanchin and Tensho, kata Ibuki technique is to inhale slowly and completely, then exhale slowly and completely while executing movements.
