How to Make a Fist

1. Open your hand, extending your fingers.

2 & 3. Beginning with the little finger, tightly roll each digit toward your palm. Try to tuck your nails into your hand so that they cannot be seen.

4. Close your thumb over the first two fingers. Do not let your thumb stick out.

More Information on the Seiken Fist

Do not bend your wrist. In striking, do not use your knuckles or finger joints alone, but make contact with the entire area of your first wo fingers, as shown. Primary contact, however, should come from your first two knuckles-see diagram below. seventy percent (70%) of the power comes from the impact of the first knuckle. Thirtly percent (30%) comes from the second knuckle. In the kata and kumite that follow, students will regularly execute punches using this technique.
