Career Summary and Relevant Experience

Having completed a Diploma of Teaching in Sydney, NSW, Bernie undertook further studies and completed a Bachelor of Education.

Since 1983 he has been undertaking research and study in traditional Japanese Goju Kai Karate, which not only specialises in Self Defence but also Risk management situations. He has studied this not only all over Australia but also overseas particularly Asia.

Since 1983, Bernie has gained invaluable experience working first hand in the hospitality and service industries, where he was responsible for designing strategies and preventative methods to manage and control aggressive clients in the metropolitan growth centres of Sydney.

In 1992, Bernie moved from Sydney to Brisbane. He has taught self-defence classes for many years. Among his work he has designed and conducted seminars for nurses and doctors at Brisbane Hospitals, Centacare, schools and various other companies, campuses, groups and organisations.

B.C. Haughey has attained a senior black belt rank in Goju Kai Karate. He has training in Kobudo (Japanese weapons). He has represented his state, and Australia in National and International tournaments.

In 1999 Bernie formed his own consultancy business - Australian Goju Kai Karate and has been the president since that date. The business provides practical and broad - based risk management consultancy and training services to a range of organizations in the health, education, tertiary and service industries.
