"Karate is a complete form of exercise & art form of physical and mental expression unto itself"

SOCIAL ENJOYMENT

We offer training programs for children, designed to be fun, while at the same time providing physical, mental, and social growth.

PROGRAM

Children are taken through a structured training repertoire consisting of: a 'before class gathering' (catching up with training partners & friends), a bow-in ceremony, meditation, warm-up exercises, techniques, pads & Kata routines.

TRAINING METHODS & TECHNIQUE

Australian Goju Kai Karate, Chief Instructor, Bernie Haughey is trained in physical biomechanics and proper technique & movement and balance of the body.

We first develop the mind, then the body, and then the technical development. Young students learn how to concentrate, look, listen, & learn.

Students learn basic technique correction where this will develop into stronger, well-timed, and effective Karate techniques.

The study of AGKK incorporates precision in executing techniques with the study of basic movements. Detailed instruction provides an understanding of the whole technique as well as its composite parts, exploring the mystery of how someone's offensive attack can be redirected and controlled without strength.

CONTROLLED FEATHER-TOUCH SPARING

For higher graded Students at an appropriate skill level may, by request, engage in controlled feather-touch sparring. Respect and Courtesy must be practiced during this activity at all times, and safety is heavily reinforced. Students should maintain a good, controlled attitude towards their partner. He/she is a colleague and students should be careful not to make direct contact to due neglect or carelessness.

During sparing sessions between higher-graded students, contact in any way is 'not permitted'. Breaches in this rule will be met with penalties.

Beginner Students, namely white belts, are not permitted to spar until they are promoted to Yellow Belt.

IMPORTANT: Children who do not want to spar do not have to.
